  • Over 100 US service members have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries after the January 8 Iranian missile attack on US forces in Iraq, Reuters reported Monday, citing US officials.
  • President Donald Trump said immediately after the attack that "no Americans were harmed," but more and more service members are being diagnosed with TBI, symptoms of which can take time to appear.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

The number of US service members diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries in the wake of an Iranian missile attack on US forces in Iraq has risen to more than 100, Reuters reported Monday, citing US officials.

Following a US drone strike that killed Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, on January 3, Iran retaliated on January 8 with a ballistic missile strike on US forces stationed in Iraq.

27 unique Etsy gifts that come with free shipping

  • Expensive shipping fees are one reason why you might not enjoy shopping for gifts on Etsy
  • But there are a number of Etsy shops that offer free shipping to the US; some without a minimum, and some when you spend $35 or more at the same shop.
  • We've highlighted the 27 best Etsy Valentine's Day gifts that have free shipping.
  • Shop all Valentine's Day gift ideas from Insider Picks here

While Etsy is one of our favorite places to find unique gifts, it can be frustrating to shop because of expensive shipping fees. If you're cost-minded or on a budget, these fees might force you to go to another site that doesn't offer as robust a selection of unique or handmade goods but does offer free and convenient shipping.

Etsy has been working on this point of friction. Last year, it announced that some merchants will offer free shipping to the US. Some of these participating shops offer free shipping without a minimum, and others when you spend $35 or more at the same shop.

This policy is making it much more appealing to shop for gifts on Etsy. Since not every single merchant on Etsy can offer free shipping, you have fewer products to choose from. However, as we filtered through all the shops that have free shipping, we found that we still had no problem finding cool and unique gifts for Valentine's Day

Now that Valentine's Day is just a few days away, some of these gifts may not arrive in time with standard shipping. Check the "Shipping & Returns" section on each product page to double-check arrival dates and see if the gift has expedited shipping options. We've also marked the gifts that may not arrive in time.

The 5 best Etsy Valentine's Day gifts with free shipping:

  1. A customizable AirPod case, $13
  2. Lightweight coasters etched with their home state, $14.50
  3. A rolling pin for a cat-loving baker in your life, $30
  4. A box to collect the caps and corks from their favorite drinks, $48.79
  5. A sampler of four sustainable coffees, $16.50

If you're looking to bypass the cost of shipping, shop these 27 gifts from Etsy:

A necklace personalized to their zodiac sign

MignonandMignon Zodiac Necklace, $17.50

A rolling pin for a cat-loving baker in your life

Favouritecookies Embossed Cat Rolling Pin, $29.99

A full-grain leather mug accessory

PortlandLeather Leather Mug Hugger, $16

*Free shipping with $35 purchase, may arrive after Valentine's Day.

Pete Buttigieg is uniquely disliked by Democrats across the spectrum even as he surges in early states

Democratic presidential candidates former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., shake hands on stage Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, before the start of a Democratic presidential primary debate hosted by ABC News, Apple News, and WMUR-TV at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.AP Photo/Charles Krupa

  • With his strong showing in Iowa and surge in New Hampshire, former Mayor Pete Buttigieg's list of critics is expanding across the ideological spectrum.
  • After Buttigieg beat former Vice President Joe Biden, in Iowa and is set to do the same in New Hampshire, moderates began to turn their ire on the former mayor.
  • Rather than attacking his policies and rhetoric — as progressives long have — moderates like Biden are challenging Buttigieg's qualifications and experience, and asserting he's not prepared to be president.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Former Mayor Pete Buttigieg has long drawn the ire of progressives, particularly the young and online subset. But with his strong showing in Iowa and surge in New Hampshire, he's now attracting sustained attacks from across the ideological spectrum.

Despite being by far the youngest candidate in the race, the 38-year-old millennial has for months polled in the low single digits among voters under 35. And even though he's competing against several moderate boomers, Buttigieg does best among voters over 65.

The Kong Wobbler is a food-dispensing toy that keeps my dog from scarfing down his meals

When my German shepherd, Silas, was a puppy, he had endless energy. He could walk for miles and play fetch for hours, and he would still be chomping at the bit for more. I did everything I could to tire him out mentally and physically, and I was constantly looking for products that would entertain him (and that he wouldn't destroy in a matter of minutes).

I also learned that feeding your dog their meal from a food-dispensing toy provides mental stimulation and is a good outlet for their extra energy, so I started feeding Silas with the Kong Wobbler. Now that Silas is 5 years old, he still eats every single meal out of his Kong Wobbler. He hasn't had a traditional food bowl for years.

What Marketers Should Know About TikTok Ad Formats and a Roundup on Partnership News

At Business Insider Intelligence, our mission is to bring you the most important insights, data and analysis from the digital world. So when we come across outstanding research from our partners that we think our audience can benefit from, we like to make sure you hear about it.  That's why we're giving you a preview of eMarketer's new report: Marketing on TikTok. You can purchase and download the full report here. It's now been more than a year since TikTok launched in the US, and in that short period, the Chinese-owned video app has capitalized on the viral nature of its platform by partnering with a number of brands and slowly unveiling a slew of advertising capabilities.FILE PHOTO: The logo of TikTok application is seen on a mobile phone screen in this picture illustration taken February 21, 2019. Cosmetics brand e.l.f. is one of the latest advertisers to launch a paid campaign targeting TikTok's Gen Z user base. Using the popular "Hashtag Challenge" ad unit, the brand recently launched its #eyeslipsface campaign, encouraging TikTok users to create videos showing off their makeup using an original song created for the activation. e.l.f. Beauty also purchased a 24-hour takeover ad, which prompted users to participate in the challenge upon opening the app.

"Gen Z is a huge audience for us," said Kory Marchisotto, CMO of e.l.f., in an interview with eMarketer about the news of the partnership. "It's of critical importance to make sure we're not only where they are, but also serving up content that's relevant to them."

A San Francisco landmass that's neighbors with Treasure Island is getting 266 new luxury homes, some priced at $3 million. Here's what the finished project will look like.

Posted: 10 Feb 2020 09:28 AM PST

Yerba Buena Island Aerial (1)Hayes Davidson

  • Yerba Buena is an island that sits in the bay between San Francisco and Oakland.
  • It's a naturally formed landmass known for an expansive wildlife ecosystem, but it's also apart of a multi-billion-dollar redevelopment project that will transform it and the neighboring Treasure Island into a new neighborhood.
  • Here's what it will look like when it's complete.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Yerba Buena is a naturally formed island that sits in the bay between San Francisco and Oakland. It's known for its brimming ecosystem of protected wildlife, its sweeping views of the water and the city, and for being a crossing point on the Bay Bridge.

But soon, the island will feature 266 luxury homes as part of a multi-billion-dollar redevelopment project that also includes Yerba Buena's neighbor, the man-made landmass Treasure Island.

There are three clusters of housing developments planned for Yerba Buena with condos, townhomes, and flats included in the offerings.

Led by developer Wilson Meany, construction on Yerba Buena broke ground in mid-2019. Since Yerba Buena has a protected wildlife ecosystem, most of the new housing will be built on Treasure Island with 75% of Yerba Buena remaining untouched as open space. But the Yerba Buena construction has already begun, making it the first step of the master plan to transform the two islands into a new neighborhood.

Treasure Island has a long history, including its time spent as a US Navy base and a Cold War-era nuclear-training site, which resulted in residual contamination on the island and a necessitated clean-up. Hundreds of residents have already lived on Treasure Island in the past two decades, and in late January, dozens of residents filed a class-action lawsuit against several defendants — including the San Francisco Health Department, the Treasure Island Development Authority, and engineering firm Tetra Tech — saying that officials lied to them for years regarding the full scope of the contamination on the landmass and their subsequent exposure to it.

Some of the named defendants pushed back on those claims in statements made to The San Francisco Chronicle, such as a spokesperson for the city attorney who reiterated that the island was indeed safe and denied the allegation that city officials weren't transparent about the state of the island. The lawsuit is asking for $2 billion to be paid in damages and for the redevelopment on the island to halt until all toxic substances are confirmed to have been removed.

But unlike its neighbor, Yerba Buena is free of a radioactive history. Asking prices for luxury homes at The Bristol, one of the condo complexes planned for the island, were recently announced. Studios will be priced at $800,000, one-bedrooms at $1 million, two-bedrooms at $1.7 million, and three-bedrooms at $3 million. They all face the East Bay while other homes face the city.

Here's what the finished Yerba Buena Island project will look like.

The website boasts that "Yerba Buena Island is the best of San Francisco" — it's the city "as it was meant to be lived."

  • Smartphone shipments in China could decrease by between 40% and 50% between Q4 2019 and Q1 2020 because of the coronavirus, according to market research firm Canalys.
  • Analysts at Wedbush Securities have also said that between 3 million and 5 million of Apple's iPhones are at risk of being pushed from the March quarter to the June quarter due to coronavirus-related setbacks.
  • China is the world's largest smartphone market and Apple's third-largest market behind the Americas and Europe.

Just as global smartphone shipments finally started to rebound after enduring several consecutive quarters of declines, the Wuhan coronavirus is disrupting production at the heart of the global supply chain— threatening to chop phone shipments in the world's largest smartphone markets in half.

Analysts at market research firm Canalys have forecast that smartphone shipments in China could drop by between 40% and 50% between the fourth quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020 because of delays related to the coronavirus. That's  a noticeable increase from its previous estimates of a 7% decline.
