Discovery Channel to Air Special Documentary on Kerala floods on 19 Nov

Discovery Channel, will be airing a one-hour special documentary on the Kerala floods on 19 November, at 9 p m. Kerala Floods .

The Human Story will bring viewers stories of bravery and survival from the floods, celebrating the spirit of the state and its people, and their perseverance in the face of the most devasating floods to hit the state in nearly 100 years.

“Viewers will get to witness incredible stories of people coming together to help those in need from fishermen turned rescue operators to the defense forces who provided aid, from actors who worked alongside NGO workers to get supplies to those in need to young entrepreneurs who devised ways to connect people at a time when the apocalyptic rain fury just refused to die,” the channel said .

The documentary also tells the story of Sabitha Jalil, a woman who went into labour three days before her due date, and had to be rescued in a high pressure Navy operation called Operation Madad. She delivered baby Subhan on the afternoon of that dramatic rescue mission.

Zulfia Waris, Vice-President and Head, Premium & Digital Networks, Discovery Communications India, said , “Kerala Floods’ aims to tell the story of a Kerala that refuses to be defined by devastation. Everyone saw the destruction of Kerala, it is now time they get to see the efforts that are being made to rebuild it, one brick at a time.”

While research is still being carried out on the long-term effects of the flood, early reports indicates that Kerala authorities estimate the overall damage to be worth more than 21000 crore. In a recent assessment, the UN estimated the loss to be Rs 31000 crore. The Centre has provided Kerala Rs 600 crore so far.</>
